Han liangdi hadn’t thought she would coincidentally encounter the Emperor in the Imperial Gardens. She looked bashfully at the upright figure of He Heng, asking in a soft voice: “Emperor, qie has learned a new song a few days ago, does Emperor want to listen?”

Qu Qing Ju buried her head in his chest, muttering: “So embarrassing.”
“I’ve seen you in more embarrassing situations,” He Heng laughed out loud, “But it’s true that you are much heavier now.”
Qu Qing Ju pinched at his waist, sniffing: “Well, whose fault is that?”
“My fault, my fault,” He Heng continued to take large steps forward, not at all affected by Qu Qing Ju’s pinch, “Heavier is good, I like you heavier.”
The crowd of people following behind silently pushed their heads lowered. They expressed that they hadn’t heard anything.

I feel as though so many of these characters forget, “Treat others the way you want to be treated.” Their lives would be easier if they didn’t keep backstabbing each other. poor women. this is the thing that i dislike about harem. sometimes we side too much with the mc and want her to win all the affection from the husband, we forgot that those women also need their husband. in most cases it was not their fault that they ended up being fei. dont you think they are pitiful enough with their life? the fu is like the cage, they cant visit their family, they cant even get out, have to try to survive everyday (no wonder they are good at scheming, they need it for survival) and in the case with HH they might spend the rest of their life without their husband (physical and emotional), in worst case they are being used like plaything. how lonely and pitiful would that be? well in this story the author made those women hateful with their greed and bad personalities, so..
I kinda agree with Han liangdi, they are all HH’s women, they are in a sense also HH’s wives. was it their fault if they try to win a little of their husband affection? he took them in, so be responsible please. if HH doesnt want to live with them try to be like the emperor in the legend, and stick with one wife.

the problem here is with HH when he repeatedly implied and promised himself with only QQJ and give us readers the hope that he can fulfill that. If he can’t keep it, he shouldn’t have promised and just be fair with all his women and gave his “favor” equally. that is why what HH did is infuriating because he gave us readers a hope that he can be ‘loyal and faithful’. though its only a little flirtation but it’s still a form of betrayal and it may or may not lead to a more serious one, who knows.
For him, it is only a little entertainment but still he give hope with that other woman, he knows he is still his woman and even a little flirtation from him could give them ideas. I like it that he is ‘loving’ only QQJ but i still despise him for his attitude towards women generally though it can’t be helped with ancient men’s mentality. but if that’s only what he is, he should just stick with what he was in the beginning of the novel, at least he did not give readers high hope for him (though I wonder if we are still reading this if that will be the case haha). also, for example jiang yu rong is also one of HH’s women but her status is still okay since she knows her place, why cant’ other women can’t be like that since they already have the knowledge that HH has the tendency to just favor QQJ tsk! tsk! In my opinion, I don’t think HH was flirting with HGH. Base on his personality, I think he was bored and was curious about what HGH will do to curry his favor. He was probably wondering why HGH was trying to make an effort when she and everyone knew of his affection towards QQJ.
As for his reaction when QQJ showed up, he was afraid that she would misunderstand. After all, he is whipped. I mean by this point, he had no problem staying away from other females, so the idea of being with another woman is naturally note even in his thoughts. But that doesn’t mean he can’ enjoy a good “play” being acted out for his amusement once in a while. And by “play” I mean HGH’s sad effort to gain his favor. also, judging from HH’s self control, he would not allow anything to cross the line.

Also, though it is only a little but it is still flirtation when he give chance to hanliangde’s to curry favor(it is very much implied in her songs that even the taijin in his side can see it, but look at how he responds if only QQJ did not appear). No matter how little it is, it could still be a form of ‘betrayal’ with his promise to QQJ since hanliangde is still his other woman. If he did not promise anything to QQJ that would still be okay..I think..since they are still all his women so he can do whatever he wants if he gets bored with one woman… But the problem is he did promise and him being so smart and cunning plus his experiences with women I don’t think he is not aware that a little give away will give other women ideas. I don’t know, but I have a feeling that he is “in” for a moment there and seeking a little entertainment. And that is what makes it disappointing because it still implied that he has the tendency to be like other typical emperor. Of course readers are a little assured that it will not likely to happen, but in QQJ’s reality it is different since she currently living it and not really sure if HH was not “swayed”. she is no mind reader. so she needs to constantly be on guard, but not all the time she is present, what if she’s not there in that moment, there could be something formed or there could be not, she did not know. even some of us readers did have doubt for a moment there if only we are not assured that it will be unlikely since this is a romance novel. so it is just right that QQJ to be the way she is from the beginning if we will talk the reality of their situation and we ourselves living in it and have no foreknowledge of everyone’s thought in our surroundings… sorry, am I making sense..?..
It does make sense…however I’m not so sure that he would start something with HLD.. If he would do anything at all, why must it be her? She’s the oldest and the less beautiful one compare to other Pinqie.
And talking about “his woman”, theoretically every woman in Hougong are his, including the beautiful maids.
So he can actually sleep with them anytime and if he really wants, QQJ wouldn’t need to know it.
I understand what you say…and having read it again recently, I support what you said. But like Kobold says, I don’t think he’s gonna start anything. I think he was just enjoying a good play and was probably curious about how far HLD is gonna take it.

Whenever I read this chapter I always become disgusted and disappointed with him. QQJ is wise for not allowing herself to fall for him until he fully proves himself

Have reread this story many times. Still this chapter fucks with me. I want to believe in the tales of the love legends but the way HH reacted was disappointing. The fact that it was never cleared up makes me sad because I just think HH could be like al the other sleazy men.
God what a disappointing chapter. I agree with all the comments here. No matter how many times I read this it irritates TF out of me that HH even listened to her fawning singing. This really makes me dislike HH because we all know that he changed what he was going to say when he saw QQJ coming. How are we supposed to believe that he’s sincere and true when he says he wants no one else? I’m disappointed in the author doing this just to create a plot device. It really could have been done in another way IMO.
