Chapter One Hundred and Thirty Eight – Aggravation and Pleasure

Yu Bai had not found Zong Ming Yan. That slightly disappointed him. He suddenly noticed, not far away, there stood a golden armored soldier. He recognized it as a seal soldier. The fact that Zuo Mo had challenged Ling Ying Sect was not known by the non-locals, but it had spread widely in Dong Fu locally. Naturally, one piece of important information had been Zuo Mo had taken a seal soldier, so Yu Bai knew of it.

He hadn’t thought that Zuo Mo would be so close to him.

Yu Bai shook his head. He didn’t have much interest in Zuo Mo. Even though the other had displayed outstanding talent, Yu Bai looked down on doing something such as bullying a zhuji xiuzhe. His Master and Wu Kong Sword Sect were on good relations. He was not willing to disrupt this kind of friendly relationship.

He was even considering, that if there was the chance, he would help Zuo Mo out.

But, very quickly, he did not have the attention to spare to think about this question because he saw a great enemy. A large man holding a gigantic sword the size of a door, stomping heavily as he neared. The other had already noticed him. Yu Bai could feel the other nearing, as his presence was quickly rising.

Nan Men Yang, the brightest grassroots xiuzhe in this Sword Test Conference. This extremely large figured man was extremely talented. Practicing the second grade [Vajra Scripture] and using the second-grade [Mountain Breaker Sword] combined for astonishing power. Because he belong to no family or sect, he quickly became the piece of jade that all sects were vying for. The benefits each sect offered him quickly rose. According to those familiar, Gu Rong Ping had represented Heart Lake Sect to give an invitation. Other than that, almost all the large sects had made an offer.

He was only twenty four years this year, his potential seemed limitless.

Nan Men Yang was the largest xiuzhe in the Sword Test Conference. His height of one zhang made him look like a moving mountain. All the muscles on his body were hard and powerful, the hard curves carved as they gave off the special faint gold light from the [Vajra Scripture], a presence that pressured others and suffocated them.

His strides were long, steady, and heavy, and one couldn’t help but feel the ground was shaking as he walked.

———

Zuo Mo felt the vibration of the ground and raised his head. However, due to the dense foliage of the trees, he couldn’t see the figure of Nan Men Yang.

After muttering a few words, he continued his work.

Three zhi long metal nails glowed with a cool blue light. Barely visible were the patterns of formations that covered the entire body of the nails.

Zuo Mo spat into his palms and raised the large metal hammer, channeling [Vajra Profound Sutra] as he pounded the metal nail into the ground. In total, there were nine large metal nails that were hammered into the ground by Zuo Mo according to specific locations. They formed the beginnings of a formation. After the hammering, Zuo Mo didn’t wipe his sweat away as he stood at the center of the formation, his fingers flying as he spat out a string of rushed notes.

The cool blue light started to spread from the nine metal nails into the surroundings. In the blink of an eye, with Zuo Mo as the center, a circle with radius of thirty zhang was completely dyed with blue light.

Zuo Mo suddenly shouted, “Set!”

The blue light that had been spreading instantly stopped. They brightened and then disappeared.

Zuo Mo released the ling power on his hands, collapsing onto his behind on the ground as he panted. Oh dear, this [Nine Metal Earth Formation] might not be a high-grade formation but it really used up a lot of ling power. [Nine Metal Earth Formation] was a second-grade formation. It only had one ability, it turned all the earth within the area of the formation as hard as metal, preventing enemies from attacking from below the earth.

After solving the problem of defending the earth, the next he had to solve was defending against the sky.

This time, Zuo Mo chose to use the [Dragon Tying Formation]. If a ningmai xiuzhe was trapped by the [Dragon Tying Formation], they usually couldn’t get out quickly. What Zuo Mo needed was just that little amount of time. Out of caution, Zuo Mo set down six [Dragon Tying Formation], almost covering all angles.

———

Not everyone’s eyes were fixed on Wei Sheng and Gu Rong Ping. Some people were noticing every single one of Zuo Mo’s actions.

“What does he want to do?” Yan Ming Zi dazedly asked Hu Shan.

Hu Shan was also gaping. He woodenly shook his head. “Don’t know… …”

“Is he trying to build a cave residence there?” Tao Zhu looked as though she had seen a ghost. “This this this… …”

At the place that the disciples of Wu Kong Sword Sect were gathering, everyone’s expressions became extremely strange.

“Zuo Shidi’s thinking… …” Li Ying Feng’s face was red, and she forced out, “extremely unique!”

Xiao Guo’s eyes were full of stars, extremely admiring. “Shixiong is very strong! To be able to think of such a powerful method! Too powerful!”

The expression of the disciples that heard this became even stranger.

“So embarrassing!” Yan Le sighed, covering his head, not bearing to look. “We are sword xiu… …”

Shi Feng Rong’s face was black. “When he comes back, we need to sort out this rascal! He really humiliated us Wu Kong Sword Sect to the ground!”

The cold light in Xin Yan’s eyes were like the dance of countless blades. His voice seemed to come out of a deep glacier, so cold that people’s hearts shook. “I’ll teachhim what a sword xiu is!”

Pei Yuan Ran, who had the greatest experience in keeping his composure, felt his face was extremely red. He seemed to hear the memorial tablets of the ancestral masters in Wu Kong Hall were all jumping, the ancestral masters beating their chests and stomping their feet.

“Embarrassment, embarrassment… …”

“So humiliating, so humiliating… …”

“You unfilial disciples, I… … I need to climb out… …”

… …

Pei Yuan Ran felt as though his entire body was freezing. As he looked at the Zuo Mo in the mirage happily setting up his formations without a hint of stopping, his breath choked at his throat. His face was suffocating so much it was red, his fingers trembling.

Just at this time, he heard Xiao Guo’s innocent voice.

“Why says that Shixiong is an embarrassment? Shixiong’s formation looks very powerful!”

Pei Yuan Ran felt his vision turn black. He almost fainted.

At least, there is Wei Sheng. He comforted himself like this.

———

Wei Sheng and Gu Rong Ping’s battle quickly reached the climax.

The tip of the main peak soared over the other mountains, clouds occasionally floating past the body of the mountain.

No one would have thought that Wei Sheng could display such power. Based just on the level of cultivation, Wei Sheng definitely had no hope of winning. However, real battle did not mean that those of the higher cultivation stage would win. But even if Wei Sheng lost this fight, no one would ever doubt his strength again. Even if Gu Rong Ping won, the title of the Strongest among the younger generation of Sky Moon Jie would still be Wei Sheng.

Gu Rong Ping was also clear about this, so his expression was very ugly, ugly like it had never been before.

He had never thought that anyone in the younger generation would surpass him. Maybe there was, but certainly not in Sky Moon Jie.

Who was Wei Sheng? Where was Wu Kong Sword Sect? A few months ago, who even knew?

A person who had been unknown suddenly took away the halo around him, and had done it in front of this many people. Hate slid across Gu Rong Ping’s eyes. His sword presence became increasingly vicious.

But the elders that were watching all shook their heads and sighed. Gu Rong Ping’s Heart Lake Sword was based on the heart as a lake, clear and without waves. But right now, Gu Rong Ping’s sword presence was full of viciousness. Compared to the emptiness previously, even though the power looked to have increased, but in reality, he was losing.

Facing Gu Rong Ping’s sharp sword presence, Wei Sheng had no thoughts of retreat. His square face and thick brows were miles away from Gu Rong Ping’s handsomeness and elegance. Yet the steady square face, at this time, had a different kind of charisma.

Only those jindan experts with their keen eyes could sensitively catch the doubt that occasionally flashed through his eyes. That was the chaos and unsteadiness of the stage of Heart Turn Sword Essence.

Some of the elders and sect leaders took the chance to teach the disciples beside them what was Heart Turn Sword Essence.

Originally, Wei Sheng, with his unsteady situation, was not expected to win against Gu Rong Ping. However, Gu Rong Ping had lost his equilibrium, and did not give Wei Sheng enough of a threat. What Wei Sheng was now relying on was [Void Sword Scripture]!

The long-lost sword scripture [Void Sword Scripture] finally showed itself in his hands. Even Pei Yuan Ran and the others didn’t look away. The experts that were watching felt an unparalleled shock!

Sixth-grade sword scripture, this was the best sword scripture in Sky Moon Jie without a doubt!

Gu Rong Ping felt extremely uncomfortable.

Wei Sheng’s sword moves seemed to be intangible and invisible. It was untraceable, and what made him want to spit blood the most was the other’s sword essence! It was clearly a tangible and sharp sword essence, but upon impact, it was like hitting empty space, as though that sword essence was a mirage rather than tangible. But if he did not pay attention to it, there would definitely be countless more holes on his body.

Gu Rong Ping had never fought as uncomfortably as this.

The other’s sword essence was really too strange. It really was out of the norm!

What he cultivated was [Heart Lake Sword Scripture]. It was the secret of Heart Lake Sword Sect and was ranked high in fifth-grade. Did the other’s sword scripture have a higher grade than [Heart Lake Sword Scripture]?

Impossible! A backwater little sect, how could it have a sword scripture over fifth-grade?

Gu Rong Ping tightened his jaw, staring at Wei Sheng, the sword presence rising.

Since he could not understand, then he wouldn’t understand!

Gu Rong Ping resolved his heart.

———

“Our sect’s [Void Sword Scripture] is as wondrous as expected!” Rather than the aggravation as he looked at Zuo Mo, Yan Le’s face was light as he watched Wei Sheng’s fight.

Xin Yan didn’t have the attention to talk. His eyes were opened wide as he stared at Wei Sheng unblinkingly.

Pei Yuan Ran’s eyes were dazedly looking in the distance, muttering, “Master, this disciple has not failed… …”

[Void Sword Scripture] had always been a sickness on his heart. Now that it could see the light of day again, he was naturally very excited. The four elders of Wu Kong Sword Sect were skilled and had found fame in Yao Hunt, but were willing to lurk in Dong Fu. It had all been for this, for the succession of the sect. Now that there was a disciple of limitless potential like Wei Sheng and [Void Sword Scripture] had been restored, his heart was beating rapidly.

Such a situation, everyone understood that Wu Kong Sword Sect would definitely become one of the top sects in Sky Moon Jie!

In possession of such a wondrous sword scripture, and having a disciple of unparalleled talent, Wu Kong Sword Sect could not be stopped.

Some with nimble minds started thinking about reacquainting themselves with this sect that had appeared out of nowhere. And other people, like the sect leader of Ling Ying Sect, had a terrible expression. If Wu Kong Sword Sect had been a power unable to be dismissed before, then the present Wu Kong Sword Sect would squeeze into the top ranks of the Sky Moon Jie sects. Ling Ying Sect had already lost the qualification to compete with them.

At this moment, Wei Sheng was like the sun that was burning in the sky, releasing rays of unparalleled bright rays. All the other competitors were like the stars beside the sun, completely diminished and dark.

Zuo Mo did not know anything about these situations. All of his focus was on the formation in front of him.

He wiped away the sweat on his face, and started to create the most important part of this formation group.

–– [Skyring Moon Chime Formation]!

Translator Ramblings: Semi-reaction chapter. Yu Bai is too nice of a person, and also underestimates other people. Pei Yuan Ran is … … I feel this little arc could also be called “How to piss off all your teachers.”

  1. Thanks for the new chapter! They know Zuo Mo is specialized in formations and less on sword scriptures. What did they expect him to do when they forced him to fight again? If they’re feeling embarrassed of his tactics, they really have no one to blame other than themselves.

  2. Zuo Mo should really migrate in another world. I bet that that he wouldn’t be so despite among his peers. Because in reality, it just show how much he is a ( useless :/ ) freacking genius … Ah ! Ah ! Ah ! 😀
I bet at the end of this story, people will remember of him as the only throne who wasn’t born as a sword-believer.

    1. He doesn’t need to change worlds to be appreciated, just sects. Any of the higher tier sects appreciate the importance of formations.

  3. Thanks for the chapter. It’s too bad for them that Zuo Mo’s talent is hard work, and if he doesn’t have any interest in something they’re completely fucked.

  4. Wait, Sky Ring (error there) Moon Chime Formation? I thought it would be Sky Ring Bright Moon Formation?

    1. Nope, I deliberately put Skyring together, probably for the same reason that you want a space. I’m putting it together so it is one entity, rather than a ring of the sky, which is true and the literal translation.

The character used is “鸣” which is a cry or a sound. Chime is, well, you probably know why, so as in wind chimes. Also, Skyring Moon Ring Formation is a little bit repetitive and not as poetic.

  5. Well, what exactly did they expect when they told him to beat down everyone else and enter the top 10? Its absolutely impossible for him to do it with strength. Heck, even if his comprehension was as good as We Sheng’s, he still wouldn’t have the power. Formations, hiding techniques and/or hiring bodyguards were his only options. Of the three, he already chose the least embarrassing one. Actually, quite a few people will admire them for producing such a talented disciple.

    1. They expected him to lose.

I’m pretty sure their entire plan was to give themselves an excuse to punish him and use that punishment to turn him into a sword xiuzhe.

  6. I would like his teachers much better and would be able to sympathize with them more had they actually taught him anything… As it stands I’m shocked that anyone in their sect can even fight with a sword; you would think their disciples would be more familiar with swinging farming implements rather than weapons for all the “guidance” the teachers provide. Had they expended a great deal of time and effort on the protagonist’s sword abilities and had he ignored them and followed his own path then their reactions would be much more interesting and understandable.

Anyway it’s still fun, thanks for the story.

    1. …what.

They did spend a good deal of time on him and he repeatedly ignored them and tried to get as little teaching as possible.

      What are you talking about.

      1. It’s both true and not true. For example, Shi Feng Rong taught him to make dan, and spent some time that way, and Xin Yan gave him physical training for body cultivation. However, they didn’t train him in the sword, which is what they want him to focus on.

      2. This is false Wyhcwe, they did train him in the sword, AND they tried to insist for more Sword lessons, but Zuo Mo was always too afraid of Pu being discovered and always refused them.

      3. I cannot remember the specifics so can you point me to the chapter, if it is something that has already been translated and posted?

      4. Can’t remember numbers offhand, but I am thinking of when Zuo Mo goes and show off his Sword Intent to the Sword Master (he is also being shown scary Intent when going to the cave) and the Master spends the day showing him flaws in his scriptures and how to improve it, and tries to convince him to focus more on it. Zuo Mo basically think he learned a lot but it’s too dangerous to see that guy as he could maybe detect Pu.

There were also a few instances before that and after where he took excuses not to see him when asked to train swordmanship.

      5. The amount of time they spend on teaching him, isn’t more than a few hours, he has pretty much self taught himself everything. His so called master didn’t teach him s***, she only let him read her scriptures, and the second elder did teach him a few thing’s, but only over a week by forcing/torturing him.

    2. lol he has had 2 jindan beating the crap out of him on a regular basis to teach him sword essence and his master has been forcing him to take his body strengthening baths.

The problem is that they are only willing to provide him guidance on how to become a sword xiuzhe and nothing else. From their point of view this is the correct approach for their Sect (however misguided that may be) but it’s not like they aren’t providing for him at all. He probably gets way more attention than any of the other inner disciples bar the few with their own masters.

    3. Because they didn’t. All they did was lament a few times that Mo had no interest in the sword… without trying to do anything about it. At most all they ever did was give him access to a room, throw him in a formation or put him in a cauldron. They never tried to mentor him or train him in any specific way beyond that first Dan recipe which he had to look up for himself. Which isn’t anything new in this genre but it’s kind of ridiculous to write it this way and then constantly have these characters be indignant about things that they have no right to be.

      1. They did try to teach him and mentor him directly in Sword, and whenever they did Zuo Mo ran away as fast as possible because he was scared they would detect Pu.

  7. Thanks for the chapter!

I don’t understand why they are so mad at Zuo Mo after demanding he make top 10…assuming he can do this with help of Su and his own formation, they are going to punish him for not fighting ningmai with the sword? Too dumb! I’m starting to hope that Pu Yao, always mentioning the savor of souls, makes part of his return diet by eating all 4 useless Jindan…

    1. They didn’t want (or expect) him to make top 10.

The entire plan was to have him lose – then have his master horribly punish him but in ways that would force him to become a sword xiuzhe (such as constant battle practice and banning him from doing anything that makes jingshi). I assume forcing him to read all of the Sects sword techniques would also be on their to-do list for Zuo Mo.

The reason they are mad now – is they thought he’s lose by fighting and realise he is wasting his talents as a sword xiuzhe. Instead he is playing with magic spells and hasn’t tried to fight anyone.

      1. OMG, I agree with you so much. Yes, they totally set him up to fail, and are getting angry he isn’t failing.

  8. Thans for the chapter.
Jajjaja, Zuo Mo will be punished even if he is one of the last ten.

  9. Lol, this arc is so funny. The teachers, although I do understand why they’re so embarrassed, they should give our Zombie some credit as he is the only zhuji! Why would he want to face any ningmai head on

    1. Ah, but they are more like insta-formations, able to be used very quickly. What they don’t like is the formations that Zuo Mo sets up which take time.

    2. You have to remember the “Masters” of his Sect are only Jindan which is only stage 4 out of 7 for Xiuzhe. I think their Sects founder was at least Fanxu (6 out of 7) as I think that was the requirement for making the sword cave (It was mentioned a few chapters ago but I’m too lazy to check).

So they aren’t cultivation geniuses. They haven’t even reached Yuan Ying (stage 5) and except maybe their current head are not likely to in my opinion. So given the focus of their Sect – it’s not surprising that there’s a lot of things they are ignorant about.

  10. thanks for the chapter,
poor Mo and his teachers, they thought to force him to change by giving him punishment after failing a impossible task (in their eyes) so they want him to realize how weak his sword is, but he instead tries to complete the task by completely ignoring his sword and focusing on what they look down on.
but it is strange that they look down on his other talent like that, since it was only by having the four elders utilizing jingshi, dan-making and forging that Wei sheng became so powerful so quickly

  11. Thanks for the chapters, it was awesome.

The MC really lives up to the tittle of the current book, all the headaches.

  12. Haha, not imagine when he picks he prize. It’s going to be hilarious. All that effort the basic book. Surely some will try to recruit him.

  13. Best chapter ever, all those reactions…. XD
Zuo Mo really is the rebellious youngest child, sigh…. On the other hand, Wei Sheng is paragon in sharp pointy object filial piety. Right now, Zuo Mo is dancing on the ancestor’s graves.

  14. The elders did make some efforts to cultivate the sword, but nothing outstanding. They were quite aware he spent more time in dan-making and formations all along and chose to let it be and instead focus on Wei Sheng. Because they do know that they cannot force someone to grow in the direction they want. The moment they found out he had more apparent potential than they believed at first, they completely forgot about this and are now upset because things are not as they wish they were. So childish! No matter how talented someone is, if he doesn’t like something, no one has the right to force him because we all choose how to live by our own right and work towards what we want.

That Zuo Mo isn’t cultivating the sword doesn’t make him a bad disciple. He’s still hard-working; I really don’t know where they get off saying he’s lazy! Some people say it’s weird for someone from a sword sect to focus on formations, but they’re still praising him for his progress! If they don’t want a disciple that doesn’t practice the sword, they have no right to force him to stay at their sect, especially when they should be aware he could fare better in other sects rather than in Wu Kong.

Honestly, I’m very disappointed in Shi Feng Rong. The others are sword enthusiasts, but she herself specializes in dan-making! I don’t know how strong her swordsmanship is, but if she chose to pour her energy into studying something else, what right does she have to judge Zuo Mo? Furthermore, while the rest may be ignorant about the power of formations, shouldn’t at least she appreciate how beneficial learning formations would be to Zuo Mo’s dan making? WHY does she also think he’s lazy? She out of all of them should know he’s not. She lives in Ginger Fragrant Yard, she can easily inquire to see what materials her own disciple handles and how much time he spends working. I used to like that she defended him in previous occasions, but it now feels he’s too good for her.

My hope is that she redeems herself by realizing how his progress is useful and learns to appreciate it so that she will defend him again if the others continue badmouthing him.

He’s like a precious jade that can bring the sect much wealth and prosperity should he choose to do so; they should be clinging to him firmly to elevate the status of their sect, yet they’re ashamed?! These people, really!

  15. Plz, some1, stop me from reading this trash about trash being trash and other trash looking down on the little trash even thou they are trash. i feel like a trash for reading this and not dropping it, the trash sect is so trashy its trashmazing. Trash know that trash is a ling farmer, promoted him to trashdisciple because trash was trashmazing at ling farming and had nothing to do with sword, now trashes are all angry at trash for being talanted and focusing on other fields than sword.

FUCK rage inducing novel, 1st time i hate a sect this much (even thouse that aim to kill mc and hinder him are not as bad) because MC is fucing aware what they are doing. But this TRASH will never know and just follow THOSE TRASHES. FUUUCK TRAAAASH! NEED TO DROP THIS TRASH NOVEL FUCK ALL THE 5 STAR REVIEWS.

  16. Wei sheng is so talented! Also, this elders had yet to see the power of jingshi xD
