Chapter Two Hundred and Fifty Two – Fire Paper Method

He Xiang released a breath in the side. Twelve hours before the final deadline, and he had finally found the enemy! As long as he found the enemy, he had the time to sort them out. The feeling of living after near death filled his body. He couldn’t help but want to exhale, but when he saw the hint of disappointment in the eyes of Second Elder, he forced himself to keep it in.

A hint of darkness flashed across the deepest part of his eyes. He did not want to show his weakness in front of his opponent.

“I’ve said it before. As long as they are in Little Mountain Jie, how can we not find them?” He pretended to be calm and said with a smile, “Tell us the situation.”

He looked as though he had expected all this.

“Chief Elder, our people had encountered the enemy on the plains in West River. A small platoon of sixteen people, our people were completely defeated.”

“West River Plains?” He Xiang mused, “Let Yu An take some people and make a trip. The other side has four people that have comprehended sword essence, and a dhyana xiu that has an abhinna. We cannot underestimate them.”

“Yes!” The subordinate hurriedly complied.

“Go quickly. Report anytime there is news.” He Xiang waved his hand.

The subordinate was perceptive and left.

“No wonder this group dare to be so presumptuous. They do have some ability.” He Xiang smiled as he spoke to the other elders. “A little troop just disappeared like this without a sound.”

“Chief Elder is wise,” an elder agreed. “However, if they want to work against our Clear Sky Sect, they obviously do not know their own limits, and are asking for their death.”

The other elders all nodded.

As to the little troop that had all died, no one was concerned. What did it have to do with them? The Outer Hall did not lack for people.

———

Below their feet were patches of clouds that spread into the horizon like a sea of clouds. Flying above the cloud layer, the sky was perfectly blue. Without any cover, the sunlight was abnormally poisonous. If one did not have their ling armor activated, they would be unknowingly corroded with a thread of fire poison contained in the sunlight.

There would rarely be xiuzhe who would fly so high. The strong wind at high elevations and the fire poison in the sunlight would increase the consumption of ling power in flight.

A troop of about three hundred people howled across the sea of clouds with astounding speed.

“Boss, where are we going?” the subordinate asked Gongsun Cha.

Gongsun Cha was sitting on a large green sword. There was an egg shaped ling shield around the big sword, blocking out the sharp wind and poisonous sunlight. Inside the ling shield, it was as warm as the spring and unusually silent. This big sword that was about one and a half zhang long had been forged of an entire block of fourth-grade Wind Ling Wood. Peerlessly light, it was an extremely fine flight flying sword. However, it was sumptuous to use such a big piece of Wind Ling Wood to make a flight flying sword. This was a spoil of victory.

This flying sword was called [Green Cloud], and had become Gongsun Cha’s personal flying sword. Because this flying sword could hold seven or eight people at the same, the person sitting on the point of the flying sword was the xiuzhe who was controlling Green Cloud. With Gongsun Cha’s zhuji cultivation, he basically could not move Green Cloud.

“Don’t you feel that we are too few in number?” When Gongsun Cha asked this, he seemed very much like a young and confused youth.

Of course, the people sitting here had become immune long ago.

“Not too few. We have six divisions now.”

“But this city can hold ten thousand people.” Gongsun Cha’s voice seemed slightly childlike.

Everyone sweated. It seemed Lil’ Miss’ sense of humor was increasing.

However, Gongsun Cha’s words made everyone’s hearts shake. The implication of Lil’ Miss’s words were clear. They couldn’t help but feel a thread of sympathy for the xiuzhe in the surrounding area.

“Then which place are we going to fight this time?” the subordinate asked carefully.

“One by one.”

Everyone shook again.

Gongsun Cha moved his mouth and another xiuzhe took out a jade scroll, channeling ling power inside. A light flashed and an illusory landscape of rivers and mountains appeared in front of them.

“There are thirteen different powers in our surroundings. The biggest has over five hundred xiuzhe, the smallest has eighty xiuzhe. Oh, on average, each faction has about two hundred people. Thirteen factions, how many would that be?” Gongsun Cha tilted his head as he asked.

The subordinate swallowed, “About two thousand and six hundred people.”

The faces of the people changed slightly. In total, they had slightly more than three hundred people. If they were to attack more than two thousand and six hundred people, the difference in numbers was really too large.

“Just two thousand.” A slightly disappointed expression came onto Gongsun Cha’s face.

Everyone’s heart jumped simultaneously as they hurriedly urged.

“It’s more than enough, more than enough. Head, we should fight one at a time.”

“Yes yes! An empire isn’t built in a day.”

… …

They feared that Gongsun Cha would be crazy and increase the number of targets. It was very likely that something like that could happen.

Gongsun Cha showed a disappointed expression. “Alright, even though it is slightly less, but we shall first eat them.”

“Head is wise!” The subordinates said together.

Gongsun Cha smiled as though he enjoyed the respect of all the people.

“Head, we’ve taken so many people out, the safety of the camp is … …”

“We don’t have to worry about that. It’s enough to have two platoons standing guard. That woman is very strong,” Gongsun Cha said carelessly.

Everyone finally recalled that Boss had a female xiu of immeasurable power that followed him. Then they recalled the three golden armor guards that never showed their faces, and instantly stopped talking.

“Oh, we will return to the camp in a month.”

The faint tone made everyone’s hearts shake as it entered their ears.

All of the xiuzhe forcefully stood up from the body of the sword. Floating midair, they solemnly accepted the order. “Yes!”

———

Batches of blue-gold bricks were transported next to the foundation. They piled up into little mountains. Yuan Jiang glanced over and couldn’t stop himself from swallowing. He urged weakly, “Boss, we should call some more people over.”

Zuo Mo ignored him and picked up two blue gold-bricks. The thick bricks seemed to weigh nothing in his hands.

“What do I do?”

Seeing the situation, Yuan Jiang could only helplessly inform, “Gold soup needs to be poured between two blue-gold bricks, and then spells are used to reinforce them. During the entire process, you have to notice to not damage the formations already on the blue-gold bricks. The root of the wall needs to be set up with earth element formations to connect them to the earth veins, so they can root themselves in the earth and become hard to shake. After the city walls are completed, bigger formations have to be drawn onto the surface of the outside walls.”

Yuan Jiang had already prepared and handed Zuo Mo a jade scroll. There were all kinds of detailed explanations in it, like the recipe for the gold soup. Gold soup was a substance that was created by mixing all kinds of gold element materials together.

After he finished reading the entire scroll, Zuo Mo suddenly asked, “Can’t I just melt the two blue-gold bricks together?”

“Melt them together?” Yuan Jiang was dumbstruck, “This … … how to melt?”

Zuo Mo himself was not so confident about the idea he just had and decided to try. He put the two blue-gold bricks together, and then he summoned the Golden Crow Fire. After some thought, the spell on his hands changed, and the Golden Crow Fire seemed to be pulled in four directions by an invisible force.

Yuan Jiang’s eyes were wide as he stared at the changes in Zuo Mo’s Golden Crow Fire.

The Golden Crow Fire gradually spread out and became increasingly thin until it was as thin as paper, an extremely thin golden piece of fire paper. At this point, the fire paper did not change anymore, but slowly flew towards the two blue-gold bricks that were stacked together.

The fire paper paused in front of the blue-gold brick and then burrowed into the gap between the two blue-gold bricks.

The fire paper quickly spread out flat between the two pieces of blue-gold bricks. A short while later, the brick surfaces facing the gap started to melt at the same time. There were no other signs of melting in the other parts of the brick.

Zuo Mo’s expression was serious. His consciousness was spread to its limits.

Seeing that it was almost enough, the fire paper suddenly flew out between the two blue-gold bricks. The two blue-gold bricks instantly stuck together. Zuo Mo didn’t dare to pause, and sent out five spells according to the description on the jade scroll.

The lights from the five spells accurately hit the merge point between the two blue-gold bricks.

When the last spell entered the two pieces of blue-gold bricks, what appeared in front of everyone was a single piece of blue-gold brick! It appeared to be one body, the surface as bright and smooth as a mirror without any gap.

Yuan Jiang was so shocked he couldn’t speak. It wasn’t just him. All the other forging xiu that were watching were left dumbstruck when they saw Zuo Mo’s skill with controlling fire.

Zuo Mo released a long breath. Good, good, he didn’t embarrass himself too much.

He felt slightly proud. Pointing at the big blue-gold brick that had just been forged, he said, “Go try and see what the effect is.”

Yuan Jiang was startled out of his daze and hurriedly arranged for an assessment of the new blue-gold brick. After a while, he ran back with an excited expression. “Boss, Boss! Strong! It really is too strong!”

Zuo Mo wanted to know the results. Hearing Yuan Jiang filled with meaningless words, he couldn’t control himself. “Tell me the result!”

There was still some hint of disbelief in Yuan Jiang’s eyes. “This is the strongest brick that this subordinate has ever seen! Definitely the strongest! We did a comparison with the best gold soup. Boss’s fire paper method was about two times stronger than reinforcing with the gold soup. We also found when there is too much outside force, the entire blue-gold brick would turn to powder, but before that, it never shows a crack. The ones made with the gold soup will crack at the mortar joints of the two blue-gold bricks if the outside force is large enough.”

Hearing Yuan Jiang blab on, Zuo Mo’s head felt dizzy. He could only ask, “So my method is better?”

“Better! Much much better!” Yuan Jiang was so excited he couldn’t control himself. The increase in strength that Boss’ method would provide to the city walls was greater than any method he knew. The other two people were also very excited.

Zuo Mo was very smug inside, and he did not feel much excitement. However, it was not hard for him to understand why Yuan Jiang and the other’s were excited. If they didn’t like it, who would study something as obscure as city construction? When a breakthrough development happened in an area a person liked, no one would be able to keep their composure.

“Oh, you guys can study the remaining. I’m going to start the work.”

Zuo Mo didn’t plan on wasting time. Time was very expensive.

The ling power spat out of his hand and coiled around twenty blue-gold bricks like a ling snake. He directly put them on his shoulder.

He felt his shoulders suddenly weigh down, his feet sinking into the earth.

It was really heavy!

These blue-gold bricks were all forged from large slabs of bluestone. Even though the volume had shrunk, the weight had not lessened. If it was any other person, they would have been pounded into paste when the twenty pieces were put on their shoulders.

Zuo Mo steadied his body and released a breath. Pulling his leg out of the mud, he started to charge towards the foundation.

Bam bam bam!

Each time Zuo Mo’s step landed, the earth would shake. Everyone in the surroundings inhaled in shock.

There were two Dhyana xiu in the two platoons who had stayed behind. Seeing this inhuman feat, they were very embarrassed!

Which motherf***er said that Boss was a sword xiu … …

Translator Ramblings: WanderingGummiOfDoom pointed out that the wall might actually be weaker this way since it turns to powder rather than cracking. Any opinions?

I find deadlines a funny thing. If there is a time limit in a story, it is usually never gone over. Something happens so that time never runs out. Zuo Mo has always been able to deliver by the deadline … … like in his match against Luo Li. In this case, Ma Fan and the others acted so that He Xiang was able to remain alive rather than be killed by the Clear Sky Old Forefather. I know there is no sense of urgency on Zuo Mo’s behalf right now but the yao army is just a jie river away and he did do another Stars in Daytime.

  1. Well, it’s twice as strong as otherwise… I figure since they’re just aiming to kill a Jindan, the stronger the better. Them turning into powder is only relevant if the attacks can do that. And if they can turn bricks twice as strong as the others into powder, what do you think would happen to the gold soup bricks?

    Thanks for the chapter!

  2. Which motherf***er said that Boss was a sword xiu … …

Yep! He is a formation xiu!

    1. Remember the ling beast not so long ago.

He’s got know talent as being sword xiu, but putting some of them to shame.

So your both wrong and he’s an Hardworking xiu

  3. I think with the matter of the bricks, the mortar is breaking apart far before the brick turns to powder. So it’s effective durability is higher. Since bricks that break apart are as useless as bricks that disintegrate, structurally speaking, a fused brick can take more of a beating.

  4. As far as the bricks are concerned, the fact that there’s no room for repair, and it’s either working perfect or gone is a concern, but considering that when he merges the bricks they share their strength, and he’s going to be making the whole city basically one brick.. the amount of power that brick will be able to stand up to is insane. On the other hand, with enough AOE damage.. I can just imagine everyone sitting nice and safe in that city, maybe having some drinks, when out of nowhere everything around them turns to dust. The looks on their faces would without a doubt be priceless.

    1. Ooh, I see. I’m not sure that adding a brick to a group will double the whole strength of the group but if every brick adds a little bit more durability, I can see why it is a better choice.

      1. They aren’t weaker. The stones are the same strength as they would be with the gold powder stuff. The hit that would turn the new stones into powder would turn the old stones into powder as well, it is just that the joints in the old stones would crack before the stones turn into powder.

  5. Would be fun if 3 bricks together would accumulate to 3 times the strength and not just double. That way a whole wall would be nearly indestructible.

    1. That would be the most amazing building material. It would make an almost indestructible wall. But that would make life too easy.

  6. thanks for the chapter! 🙂

    I think like this:

lets say 10 000 jin of force can make the old blocks crack. To turn the new in powder, will be need 20 000 or more, until be turned in powder, there will be no damage.

  7. I recalled all first batch under lil miss should capable of using essence.. Not just 4

    Thx 4d ch

    1. They only had 5 people stay behind while the rest fled. So they only “know” of 4 + the Dhyarna with an abbhina. Probably believing the others don’t since it’s so rare for them to have it.

      1. Sword essense is rare so the enemy can only imagine that the five people who stopped them are the only to have it. The enemy also assumes that the one that annilihated their group in the plains contained all five of them. After Xie Shan’s flashy performance of using easily and quickly using 150 jing of power and killing 50 people it’ll be interesting to see what force the enemy puts together to combat them.

Of course, this force will “only” have to face Ma Fan and his platoon of 20 people. “Lucky” bastards.

    2. No, it’s more than four, it’s fifteen. All of the people in Xie Shan’s group that went to Nan Sheng Village had sword essence.

What Lil’ Miss’ group could do was merge their sword energies, not sword essences.

  8. The brick only turns to powder when the outside force is stronger than it an support. This means that a lower force won’t be able to damage it, and for that reason zou mo’s method is better

  9. What’s the dnd term, hardness?
It’s like he’s trading hp for hardness, great in that it makes it almost invulnerable to lesser attacks, but if something is hitting it hard enough to break through you’ve got a lot more to worry about than construction

  10. Zuo Mo ‘s method esentially turns the wall into a single rock. The energy needed to break the joints is a lot less than the energy needed to pulverize the stone. Using lego bricks as an example, it is easier to separate two bricks than to break a single brick.

  11. Thanks for the chapter, i think that zuo mo’s method it’s better because yes it breaks if enough strenght it’s used but until then it will not be damaged so you can’t pile up a lot of weak attacks to destroy it

  12. Thanks for the chapter
Time limits are there to give a sense of urgency but that never really comes through in this novel … mostly because Zuo Mos idea are just too op and he always achieves everyone on deadline xD

  13. The principle is knocking a brick of five stack glued together compared to trying to knock a block of stone made from the same material as the brick. Chances you will knock the brick column down at the joining while you need to break the whole column to destroy the stone column. Make sense?

  14. The reason the wall will be stronger even though it turns into powder is because the effected part only, will turn to powder instead of having a wall that’s full of cracks that when falling apart will ruin the foundation. The new wall for example may receive to much damage towards the bottom . that portion will turn to dust leaving the part of the wall directly above it still intact. So to fix it, it shouldn’t be to hard. On top of that if you have a wall full of cracks it could ruin the formations opposed from having minor damages to the formations with the new way..

  15. It may turn to powder when it breaks but it sounds like it takes a lot more force to break it at all.

It is like the Edicts of Fate formations in Coiling Dragon to break it you need to hit it with enough force to damage the entire structure. Otherwise it does absolutely nothing.

  16. Fusing bricks is better for example if a brick breaks on 200 newton force and joint breaks on 100 newton than anyone with 100 newton van break in city but if it is fused than minimum force needed is 200newton and also since the force spreads all over bricks it might need more than 200 newton.( as the saying goes a chains strength is as much as the weakest link)

  17. Depends, which is better? Getting crushed to death by large pieces of rock or swallowed by a sea of powder?

    1. Drowning in the sea of powder and then dying of suffocation … … except they can fly out of it so being crushed is worse.

  18. Depends on how the wall is being hit and the mechanical properties of the bluestone.

  19. Meatbun delivery~
Thank you for the chapter ( ●w●)

About the brick, i feel it’s more useful and not weaker in any way.. cause for one thing the use of those brick are for the layout for magical inscriptions not walls, so when they break they’re as good as ordinary stone..
and i want to remind you that they are cultivators, even zhuji cultivators can crack a boulder much less a ningmai.. so when the formation breaks, even if you want to use it as a wall it doesn’t differ much from a thin plank of wood.
And that also include the benefit of being fully operational until it breaks, the old method can be confusing when you don’t even know which part it is thats cracked and need to be replaced

…wow.. what a large wall of text this turned out to be..

  20. Well the strength of the brick wall depend. In general term something that is elastic which bends or doesn’t complete break would be better. Do u want a broken wall or a powder wall? But since the author said it’s stronger then we can only believe it to be.

  21. Just to correct some misunderstandings, it said it will crack at the gold joints if enough force is thrown on it. Meaning the half brick can take a 50dmg hit but the joints will fail before that vs a brick 100 hp and not break apart before a 101 dmg rating. So yeah, it’s stronger as the wall will stay solid before a 101 dmg rating and not tumble apart when the dmg exceeds the joints strength and leaves a pile of good bricks lying around. Imagine full concrete wall vs brick wall.

  22. I think fracturing or disintegrating are just used as failure modes in this context; it doesn’t really lend itself well to comparison with real world examples. In theory, all materials have weak points in its unit cell structure in which the applied stress is concentrated and is typically the area where failure occurs first, resulting in fracturing. I’m assuming that the bricks Zuo Mo made are of such high quality that all these imperfections have been removed, hence the stress is applied equally to all the chemical bonds between the base molecules such that they break at the same time, causing the brick to turn into powder.

  23. I think the fire paper method is stronger, because usually you would just have to put in enough energy to move a single brick maybe a column, but now you have to destroy all bricks at once.

  24. Depends on the construction I suppose. Instead of fusing every single brick together you could build in layers so even if the outer layer turned to dust the in layers were fine unless like other people are saying and the product is greater than the sum of the bricks which would eventually lead to indestructibility and the point would be moot.

  25. It depends on what type of force its up against and how it used against it. For example, an ordinary towel hanged to dry in the wind will block arrows but if the same towel is used when stretched out the arrows will pierce.

  26. Better that the bricks turn to powder than shatter into fragments which then rain on everybody’s heads.

    1. He’s left a pretty good impression with these people but I still think how bad his reputation is in Sky Moon. Greedy … … money-grubbing … … delinquent

      1. Sky Moon jie is dead. Long live Little Mountain jie!!!!!!!

  27. No really, which motherf***er said that Boss was a sword xiu?

Are the cuss words starred out in the original language? =P

  28. No, it would not necessarily be weaker. Wood and Metal structures actually show this same phenomenon. Wood holds its structure longer in a fire before complete collapse. While metal on the other hand will start to warp causing it to no longer be able to hold the structural load therefore it will collapse sooner than wood. So even though wood will eventually burn away metal is the weaker structure in fire.

    1. Which same phenomenon? At this point you’d have to discuss the force. If it was kinectic energy then metal is usually more resistant. For heat energy the metal is more conductive and less resistant. But it still too much of a generalization as there is a huge rage of melting points for different metals.

    2. I tried looking it up and I can’t find any proof that wood lasts longer then metal in fire. Thought I can’t find any proof that metal lasts longer then wood either. But I also realized that when I was talking about kinetic force versus heat force I forgot about weight force which usually the downfall of metal. Of course, then we’d also have to talk about “structure” as a wall and a building with a roof have completely different load bearing profiles.

  29. “Boss, where are we going?” the subordinate asked Gongsun Cha -> “Head, where are we going?” the subordinate asked Gongsun Cha

In a previous chapter lil miss was called Head and Zou Mo called boss

  30. On the one hand, the method of mortar and brick means that the wall can be easily rebuilt when damaged but it also means that individual pieces make up a whole, and it is still a heterogeneous whole. This means that when a single piece breaks the whole becomes weaker in that area and while the whole won’t be broken immediately it means a hole can be made in the wall right at that point. While this means you could defend that point as a focus it also puts pressure on the remaining areas to not fall too. Now this other method of one solid wall means that all the brick would be one continuous whole. It would be very homogeneous meaning that there would be no difference between the parts as it is all literally one piece. On the one hand considering formations and energy spreading this would mean it would all likely become a singly talisman. Because of that it would mean the wall would be able to shrug off most attacks that would normally destroy a single brick by spreading the attack throughout the whole wall. On the other hand instead of being able to easily repair the wall, if the wall is overcome in damage at any point then the entire wall turns to ash. This isn’t how real materials would work but its a single item, a talisman and its hypothesized using single construct magic imagery with the formations making it into a single item.

Pro’s and con’s basically easy repair versus higher durability.

  31. It’s hard to see this is the same person who was so tired after climbing a peak with some catties of ling grains…😂
Ahhh I still think it was a pity for his sword essence tho ( ノД`) please practice sword again in the future!

    Thanks for the chapter!🍀
