Chapter Four Hundred and Fifty Nine Counter-Attack
Reality was stronger than the fortitude of most people.
When all the businesses in Xu Ling City gathered together to restrict students of Turtle Island Cultivation Classes, the attendance rates were heavily affected.
Anyone that was intelligent and could see what was going on. Some students were not afraid and did not care. So what if they could not find a job in Xu Ling City? They could travel to other cities. As long as they cultivated good spells, where couldn’t they find a job?
But not every student had such courage and not every person was willing to run to an unfamiliar city and start a new life.
The number of people in Turtle Island Cultivation Class had instantly lessened.
Having been contemplating on how to expand the classes, Zuo Mo was dumbstruck. It had just been a few days, how come it was like this?
He hurriedly sent Shang Wei Ming to investigate. The businesses thought they were extremely strong and did not disguise anything. Shang Wei Ming quickly came back with news. When Zuo Mo learned it was the Tian Family again, he instantly became angry!
We haven’t even settled the ambush last time, and you come to challenge us again!

Zuo Mo had planned on letting Pu Yao torment the Tian Family, but now he rolled up his sleeves and decided to act himself!

“Is there something you need?” The person receiving Zuo Mo was a middle-aged man.
“Oh, I want to discuss a partnership with your sect,” Zuo Mo said.
“Partnership?” The middle-aged male’s eyes lit up. Business!
Earth Sound Sect was a small sect. Their most famous product was the large sound tablet formation that could broadcast across the entire city. The male at the front of the store was their sect leader, Yin Ling Zi.
If Yin Ling Zi was not clever and creative the Earth Sound Sect would have died out long ago. Through his efforts the sound tablet program [Earth Sound] was produced in an interesting manner, and had a broad audience in Xu Ling City.
But their present days were not easy. The popularity of their [Earth Sound] program was slowly declining. This caused a great headache for him but he did not have many solutions. Xu Ling City was still a small place, Earth Sound Sect was also a small sect. He could create higher-grade sound tablet formations, but he could not afford it. Also, the expenditure of higher grade sound tablet formations was also astounding.
Yin Ling Zi instantly became warm and had a smile on his face, “Please come in, please come in!”
Zuo Mo’s group walked into Earth Sound Sect, and Yin Ling Zi carefully took out his last bits of ling tea and brewed it.
After sitting down and taking a sip of ling tea, Zuo Mo stated his intentions, “I have come this time in the hope we can use the [Earth Sound] program your sect broadcasts to advertise the products of our island.”

The Tian Family was the second largest faction in Xu Ling City, ranked under Xu Ling Sect, the depth of its foundation was far bigger than an outsider like Turtle Island!
If they offended the Tian Family, a little sect like Earth Sound Sect’s days would be at an end.
“What? Your sect will not accept this business?” Zuo Mo smiled thinly at Yin Ling Zi.
Yin Ling Zi hadn’t spoke when he saw Zuo Mo casually put something on the table. When he saw what it was, Yin Ling Zi’s eyes could not move away.
Ten pieces of fourth-grade jingshi!
Yin Ling Zi’s eyes instantly became heated as he stared at the ten pieces of fourth-grade jingshi on the table!
For Earth Sound Sect, ten pieces of fourth-grade jingshi was about half of their annual income. Yin Ling Zi knew his sect was in dire straits, it was to the point they were almost destitute, and could barely afford to buy food. If they could not create more revenue, they wouldn’t even have the jingshi to maintain the large sound tablet formation.

Yin Ling Zi’s breathing became heavy, his eyes instantly filled with blood and his expression slightly vicious.

His workmates watched him, each gleeful at his misfortune. Just a few days ago, all of them looked at him with completely different gazes. Suddenly, the content broadcasted by the sound tablet caused Zhu Zhen to stop what he was doing.

if i remember correctly, not anyone can write on jade scrolls. they need a certain level of cultivation and learned a certain technique to write on jade. and jade scroll have maximum uses.
GonZ55 got the right point! You can’t make a copy in this world unless you understand more that it. A master of 4rth level can make a good 2nd level jade scroll. It takes loads of time and energy.
Who cares there just low grade spells that don’t mean much tof zuo mo anyway sure he be sad at the loss of money but hey he got back at the tian family

Nah, if they don’t do this, they’ll just be idling around consuming jingshi. May as well go out and earn merit points. The secret isn’t that they have many sword xiu, it’s that they are a trained and experienced battalion and how can they detect that without amassed troops in an open battle?
I’m pretty certain the mass hiring will happen when whatever Pu Yao did to the farming talismans comes round full circle.
I mean, it’s pretty clear that taking all the ling grains and what was merely a distraction; he’s done something that’s going to have a deeper impact on this sect than just robbing their warehouses.

Interesting on the money front.
10 pieces of 4th grade is about half a year of living costs for the small sect.
Iirc then 500 third grade is a fourth grade, so 5000 third grade, for 180 days makes a bit less than 30 per day, so lets round up.
Furthe iirc there is a factor of 10 from first to second and 100 from second to third.
first grade was treated as basically dollar/euro equivalent (one can quibble to a factor of 3 or up and down) by the carrier in the first chapter.
That makes a cost of somewhere around 10-100 thousand dollar equivalent for a sect by day which actually seems reasonable (more so the low end).
It is nice to see a story that in general gets currency values right without numbers becoming completely overblown as happens in so many stories in their need to become ever larger.
and then I keep reasing and the scroll prices come up…

when did thrid grade jungshi becme base currency really?
I guess it has to do with the general quality of the average cultivator in an area. if you have predominantly ningmai then second grade and first grade are basically useless and the market adjusts.
Though I have to ask just how damn samll that radio sect is then (feels like maybe 30 people, more like a family)

You have to remember that Zuo Mo was living in a rural or back water place and living by himself when the series started. The expenditure for things an individual needs is vastly lower than a group.
And have you ever bought a meat/vegetable from the producing village? It’s price is a lot cheaper than when you buy it from a nearby market place. Sometimes the value jumps ten times the price you buy from the village.
Now back to topic, Zuo Mo was from a small varming village in a small jie. Now, Zuo Mo is in a Big city of a Medium sized Jie.

Just started reading on that novel, it seem to be a story hundred of year after this event ( almost input a spoiler there XD ).
I think Alyschu is doing that story.
Currently the translation there is extremely slow (one a month-ish), so either she’s lost interest or she’s waiting for you to finish here due to the spoilers. 😉
Various characters from this novel have been mentioned so far, however they have been treated as historical figures, but given cultivators live so long they may end up being actual characters of Five Way Heaven, so a fear of spoiling this story isn’t unwarranted.
I think it is aly’s side project. I know she has other stuff on Wuxiaworld.

And in the process they also angered someone much more powerful and dangerous than the Tian Family. Bad business management. They should fire their consult.
