Chapter Four Hundred and Sixty Two – Cave Fright

Xu Ling Sect

Lu Zhen’s expression was serious. “Ning Yi, Gu Ming Gong, and Yuan Xin, is this information up to date?”

Lu Zhen was the present sect leader of Xu Ling Sect, his cultivation was in the third stratum jindan and he was deeply trusted by the elders of the sect. Under his management, Xu Ling Sect had become more prosperous than before.

“Not up to date but their goal is definitely these three. Supposedly, Yuan Xin has already agreed.” The one who spoke was Lu Zheng’s shidi Huang Jie. He looked questioningly at Lu Zhen. “Should we stop them?”

Lu Zhen asked instead, “Have we determined the origins of the people from Turtle Island?”

“No,” Huang Jie shook his head, “they are very wary. We are afraid of drawing their attention and do not dare to question deeper. We thought about asking  Shang Wei Ming but there were no results. That guy’s mouth is unusually tight.”

“En, they saved his life. It seems Shang Wei Ming is determined to help this group of people.” Lu Zhen continued, “You also saw the sword xiu in the city that day, what do you think?”

“Their cultivation is average, all ningmai, but their killing energies are dense and should be a group of well-trained lawless brutes. Among them, the ratio of those who comprehend sword essence is very high.” Huang Jie recalled. He thought of the troop of sword xiu that had flew by him, the threads of killing essence coiling around them that had caused his heart to shake.

He refocused and continued, “I heard they have a cultivation class that says it guarantees comprehension of sword essence. Since they dare to give such a boast, they must have some technique that others do not know. They also have a sword xiu expert that is not weak. It is also rare that he is willing to teach and accept disciples.”

“Who do you favor?” Lu Zhen said with a smile.

Huang Jie said after a moment, “If Tian Yong Qing and them can really invite Ning Yi and the others, seven to three. Tian Yong Qing seven, Turtle Island three. When experts fight, it is not the killing of battalions, it depends on individual power. Ning Yi’s personality isn’t good, but his strength is hard to deal with. In our sect, other than Sect Leader who can fight him, the others cannot do it. Unless the top … …”

Lu Zhen raised a hand and stopped Huang Jie from continuing. He said, “Do not worry, I have invited Huang Long Zhenren to come visit for a while. With Huang Long Zhenren and I, they would not dare to mess about.”

Huang Jie said with a smile, “I had guessed that Sect Leader would be prepared but didn’t think you would have invited Huang Long Zhenren!”

“I also do not have any other solutions.” Lu Zhen smiled and then his expression became stern again. “The Tian Family has been very lively recently. It seems that the Tian Ye Battalion’s rise in rankings has caused their confidence to inflate!”

“Sect Leader means?”

“Wait for this matter to end. We will strike at the Tian Family so they will don’t lose sight of themselves.”

“Sect Leader is right.”

In a dark cave, a trail of black shadows marched for the deep reaches of the cave.

The one walking at the very front was Lil’ Black, followed by Tenth Grade. Lil’ Pagoda and Lil’ Fire were circling around A Gui. A Gui’s eyes exuded faint purple light that seemed eerie. Silly Bird was last as she held her head high as she slowly walked her bird walk, unaffected by the darkness, she was as proud and at ease as always.

A Gui’s situation was growing better by the day, her expressions gradually becoming nimble. Lil’ Pagoda and the others always accompanied A Gui. The caves on the island were overgrown with grasses and plants, and became the playground of A Gui and the others who played happily.

Suddenly, Lil’ Black that walked at the very front stopped, its two antennae furiously waving.

The battle maniac Tenth Grade was like a cat that had smelt fish, his little face instantly showing excitement. Holding the little black sword, he flew into the darkness.

Many flames erupted on Lil’ Fire’s body, the bright fire chasing away the darkness and revealed the Lil’ Gang.

The Lil’ Ones were around A Gui as the purple energy in her eyes wavered.

Tenth Grade’s body suddenly flashed and disappeared.

Clink!

A spark suddenly shot out of the air and the sharp sound of collision came into the Lil’ Ones’ ears.

The flames on Lil’ Fire’s body wavered and it timidly leaned towards A Gui. Lil’ Fire’s little feet grabbed onto A Gui’s leg and it climbed up into A Gui’s head to hide inside her hair.

Lil’ Pagoda was daring and unafraid, moving closer in curiousity.

Silly Bird had an idle expression.

Clink clink clink!

Sparks lit up the air and the sharp sounds beat down on the airs.

Using the light of the fire, the Lil’ Ones finally saw clearly. So this was a group of black insects!

These black insects were about the same size as Tenth Grade, their bodies shaped like shuttles and they were extremely fast! Their shells were extremely hard, and created sparks when colliding with the black sword in Tenth Grade’s hand but were not damaged!

Having found an opponent, Tenth Grade quickly descended into excitement, his stern face was murderous.

Tenth Grade with his black clothing and black sword was like a black bolt of lightning. In a turn, he had sealed off the advance of these little black insects.

Chirp chirp!

Sounds of the insects sounded.

Clink clink clink!

The sparks from the battle made it seem like a crescent barrier of fire had formed!

The killing energy on Tenth Grade’s face grew. He felt the pressure was increasing! The number of little black insects was increasing!

Silly Bird showed a wary expression. It detected danger!

Pia pia pia!

The sparks were bright in the darkness. The Lil’ Ones quickly changed expressions. The spark barrier was slowly being pushed towards them!

Tenth Grade’s figure moved quicker and quicker, his little face was vicious but the insects were increasing in number and he could not stop their advance!

Lil’ Pagoda did not dare to just look on from the side. It released a five colored light that swept towards the insects.

The insects that were swept by Lil’ Pagoda’s five colored light suddenly froze!

Tenth Grade who felt even more frustrated due to being pressured suddenly exploded and the sword presence grew!

The barrier of sparks suddenly expanded outwards!

Yet what no one had expected was that the spark barrier that just expanded seemed to have encountered an invisible hand that suddenly pushed it back!

Insects, even more insects!

In the depths of the cave, insects furiously came out like the tide!

The purple light in A Gui’s eyes rose. Her right hand waved and a wave of insects that were attacking seemed to encounter a fatal attack, falling down silently! When they landed, their bodies were motionless. They were dead!

A Gui’s attack caused the tide of insects to stall.

Opportunity!

The Lil’ Ones had followed Zuo Mo for a long time, and their skills at fleeing were even better! Without needing to communicate, their figures retreated in unison, they were so in sync it was as though they were tied together by the same rope.

The insect tide that had paused momentarily lost all restraint and furiously leapt at the Lil’ Ones!

The chirping was endless and caused pain in the eardrums!

The Lil’ Ones were in sync. Frightened, they ran with all their power. Silly Bird did not have any of the composure of an expert now as she furiously waved her wings and occasionally sneaked a look back, actions which did not affect her speed at all.

The insect wave was following tightly on their behinds. Just as they were going to catch up, the Lil’ Ones suddenly sensed everything lit up.

They were out of the cave!

What caused their eyes to widen was that the insects all stopped when they got to the cave entrance. In a flash, the shadow of the cave entrance was crowded with insects. These insects packed together in layer and on top of each other. It was frightening to see.

Using the sunlight, they finally saw the true appearance of these insect. These insects were not black, but a brown color, their bodies flat and shuttle-shaped. There was a pair of thin gossamer wings on their backs. It may have been because they lived in the dark, that they had extremely tiny eyes that were almost invisible. What was most shocking was their mouth that was filled with sharp fang that caused coldness in those who saw it.

The Lil’ Ones were frightened.

They quickly found that these insects did not come out of the cave no matter what. Then they rested their hearts.

The mischievous Lil’ Pagoda saw the insects were not willing to come out of the cave and its fear disappeared. It floated to a place only three zhang from the mouth of the cave and twisted its five layered waist at the insects in the cave, making all kinds of funny faces.

The insects at the cave shifted and furiously climbed towards the cave mouth but no matter how they climbed, they would not come out of the cave.

Seeing Lil’ Pagoda was fine, Lil’ Fire and Lil’ Black also came out to taunt the insects before contentedly leaving.

Tenth Grade looked back at the cave entrance crawling with insects before leaving, his always stern face suddenly had a dark smile.

Full of murderousness!

———

“No problem! We will transport a batch of brown spotted rock and water soul crystal as soon as possible. Because you require a large number, it will probably be around ten days.” The shopkeeper of Cloud Pavilion said warmly to Bao Yi.

The shopkeepers from the previous incident had been punished or fired by Liao Qi Chang. This shopkeeper had been moved over from another store. He was very clear on how he had become the storekeeper of Xu Ling City Cloud Pavilion, and the young master had ranked Mister Zuo as third  on the list of people to pay special attention to.

Even though this person was not Mister Zuo himself, he was still cautious. While the King of Hell was easy to see, the little ghosts were difficult to spot, so he did not dare to slight him!

Other than using the fastest possible speed to get the merchandise, he had also given the best discount.

Bao Yi showed a satisfied expression. He knew the market and understood that the delivery speed and prices of the other provided were very satisfactory.

“Thanks, Shopkeeper!” Bao Yi raised his folded hands in thanks. Daren placed great importance on this batch of brown spotted rock and water soul crystal, telling him to order them as fast as possible. Having completed what Daren had given him to do, a rock landed in Bao Yi’s heart.

Before leaving Cloud Pavilion, Bao Yi cast a disguise over his face.

He quickly walked into another shop.

After the businesses in Xu Ling City teamed up against Turtle Island, Bao Yi’s business had entered a stagnant state. He would even have trouble buying things. Other than Cloud Pavilion that continued to work with them, the other shops did not sell them anything, much less buy.

Bao Yi quickly thought of a solution and used disguise arts.

No one would suspect him if he did not use his true appearance as he went shops to make purchases. Many xiuzhe were not willing to use their true appearances and there were many that used disguise arts.

Just like normal, he paid attention to the price of all the merchandise and the discussion in the corner quickly entered his ears.

“Ha, this time, Turtle Island cannot escape!”

Bao Yi’s heart shook and his ears instantly rose up!

Translator Ramblings: Don’t people have other things to do than watching what your neighbours are doing? For some reason, I feel 10% of every organization’s membership are actually members of other organizations as spies. Otherwise, I’m not sure how they get the information so quickly.

  1. When I scrolldown I accidentally pressed faq.. then boom lost 1st place.

    1. Lol. TRANSLATOR RAMBLINGS REACTION
……… those boses are overconfident, that even dead grass did not escape from hearing their laughter and repetitive words of their plan

  2. How do they get the info? Probly same way Bao Yi’s about to get some. No one has the capability to not boast like crazy about stuff.

    Thanks for the chapter btw.

      1. They don’t gossip about plans before they occur, or things they shouldn’t gossip about.

The just gossip about their bosses and which of them they really shouldn’t anger.

The top 3 being in an undecided order : Boss Mo, Lil’ Miss & Teacher Wei.

    1. A lot of them weren’t maniacs before he kidnapped them. A ton of them only became that way when he dug and built a city with his hands.
I honestly love reading about how crazy his people are. They’ve progressed more in the short time they’ve been together than the rest of the world seems to have.

  3. Its also possible that they aren’t even trying to keep it a secret and are recruiting those three publicly as some sort of scare tactic.

Hopefully Tenth Grade will mention the insects to someone. I’m sure they’d be a valuable resource of some kind for the island. That said, have the others stopped exploring the island? How did they not find it first?

I wonder if anyone in the Lil’ Gang has a spatial artifact. If not, they must leave a lot of treasures just lying around.

    1. More like, recently most of the people have had shit to do, and then you have to cultivate, and the black armored guards are all digging like the Dwarfs they are.

      1. If you’ll recall, one of the first orders given when they took the island was to explore it for resources that the previous owners were unaware of.

    2. Maybe the cave is too deep with many branches or there’s a lot of caves that they still haven’t done with exploring all of them before jingshi problem popped out.

The Lil’ Gang must be already ate the good stuffs first before storing whatever left to that Stingy Old Bamboo. I think the amount that they snacked out must be quite a mountain of jingshi…

    3. Regardless of how smart they are they are still animals. Why would they have a spatial artifact? If they saw something useful they would eat it; if they couldn’t the would tell Zuo Mo.

      1. Neither Silly Bird nor Tenth Grade are stupid. Either one of them could figure out how to use such an artifact if shown. Also, the only one that can speak is Tenth Grade, and I don’t know if he’d bother to tell Zuo Mo. Silly Bird at least has a history of having the gang collect stuff and turn it into Bao Yi, but without the puppets or a spatial artifact, there’s really no way for her to do that now.

      2. I never said they were stupid but they are animals. They have instincts that they follow. They tend to prioritize their group over everyone else if they aren’t being watched unless someone is in danger. They do give stuff they don’t find beneficial to Zuo Mo, but I think only pagoda could use an artifact. Silly Bird hasn’t been shown using ling power before. Tenth Grade is a mo beast and I don’t know if they can even use ling power.

    4. No, 10th grade will stay silent, and when the experts are driven back by Ge’s men, they will run into the conveniently abandoned cave and meet… an unfortunate end.

  4. Meatbun Delivery~
Thank you for the chapter ( ●w●)

*taunts the ugly bugs with lil pagoda*

wyhcwe, it’s the aunty group that’s took care of each sect. their gossip*cough* information gathering skills are frightening! they even know what socks you wore on monday..
    XD

  5. Thank you for the chapter!

I hope those bugs aren’t some important bugs to have while alive, because they’re about to get murdered.

    1. Why kill? Tame them! They’re frigging strong.
Or evolve them into insect mo or something.
      We got Pu and Cheng-shidi!

  6. Zou Mo and AGui are perfect for each other…both leads group of ruffians and attracting trouble wherever they go…but AGui group is best..comprises of their three mischievous kids, bodyguard, and a aloof motherinlaw of Zuo mo(silly bird).

    Thanks for the chapters…

    1. Rebellious to her father but kind to her siblings (at least the immature ones) and absolutely terrified of her mother.

  7. >Lil’ Fire’s little feet grabbed onto A Gui’s leg and it climbed up into A Gui’s head to hide inside her hair.
    It should be Lil’Black right?

So, what will Ge profit from these insects?
How many jingshi will he get?
    I think it’s time for Puyao-emon again. Or Cheng-shidi.

    1. That would make sense to me too, I don’t remember Lil’ Fire having limbs, and it seems like a fire risk to have it hiding in hair.

I always find Tenth Grade’s scenes odd as well, because I’m never sure where it’s talking about the butterfly as the whole or just the person in the ball on the antenna. Does the little person just drag the butterfly body behind it or do they move as a cohesive whole? Does he block attacks directed at the butterfly or does the butterfly just get ignored by enemies? Are these insects the size of Tenth Grade or the butterfly + Tenth Grade?

      1. Actually, I can’t remember if he is separated from the butterfly or if he is attached to it … …

  8. Thanks for the chapter,
A’Gui and her band of merry lil’ones, so cute.
Will Ge sell tickets to the fights when he realizes what is up?

  9. Uhmmm…

I like this story, but in this few hundred chapters, i feel that it has drop its quality quite a bit.

At the first i liked how this story was diferent compared to the rest, at how Zuo Mo was quite diferent at your everyday xiaxia MC and how he actually used his brain to get an upper hand and defeat his oponents(or flee) that were stronger than him… I liked how he spend hours bitterly researching (and sometimes training) about something and using his head and ingenuity to came up with something new to earn jinshi or just to beat whoever came for him…

I pretty much liked those thing and how Zuo Mo was like the chinese ver of Weed from LMS… Quite ridiculous how their greed lvl force them to do all sort of thing… jaja.

But lately i think that the only thing that has keep constant in the comedy, the rest… not so much.

Before, like i said up there, he used his brain to came up with something to beat his oponents, research and whatnot… now, since that Pu give him that Mo body cultivation method to make his body stronger, he just devolved into another walking trope of ‘My kun-Fu is Stronger Than Yours’ mixed with the infamous ‘Unlimited Power-uping Works’ that you see in your everyday battle related shonen japanese manga and just brute forcing everything in the way. D:

Also the autor has been doing some thing has been leaving a bad taste in my mouth.

Those time skip are pretty horrendous in my opinion, i dont mind to much the time skips but, in the way that this one autor has been doing it? no man, it has been awful. He just doesnt care if the pre-ts part doesnt connect with the post-ts part, he just do the timeskip and leave a big hole in the way and doesnt bother to give at least a little resume of what they did in that spam of time. Sometimes ive had to look the last chapter to see if it wasnt that i jumped a chapter because the parts of the last chapter and the one that im reading didnt connect. D:

He jumped when Ma Fan and co beated that beast, so i dont know how they did it outside the little that he said chapters later, that without say that Zuo Mo was thinking about something and then ban! in the next chapter he was doing another thing after who know what spam of time since the last chapter.

I dont know how they made the ship outside how they made those giants block of golden sand.

I dont know how they go out from that cursed battlefield, they just magicaly appeared in the something Metropolis jie.

I dont know what they did after they beated that party from Kun Lun, they just magicaly appeared in the cloud something jie with a pretty lame thing about how the made the big war something worse indirectly causing thousands more deaths.

Another thing that has been leaving a bad taste in my mouth is how he just forget about some character and leave them into the oblivion D: Like those people in the ten fingers prision… he was more or less developing their characters and then ban! they disappeared… what happened to them? nobody knows, after Zuo Mo got that map from the third/fourth lackey, they were forgotten D:

    1. I totally agree, and its sad that they jump some good parts over. But this ln is just 900 something chapters long, and if the author had to go over every detail, it would easily reach over 2000 chapters, since they havent really started the war part yet, and there are a lot of cultivation stages that we havent seen yet, there are going to be a lot these time skips, and i have heard that the ending is rushed and i understand what they mean when you think about that there only are around 400 chapters left.

  10. another thing… since when lit fire has legs? or since when lit’ pagoda has a face to do faces?

  11. Did we just see Mister Ling Beast Breeder’s current Lil’side project?
Hopefully Ten Grade and his Lil’Friends won’t accidently kill them before they mature enough to use…Wasted jingshi would certainly break Zuo Mo’s Lil’Heart </3

  12. To manuel R: you are quite harsh and inconsistent in your argue or complain. If you personally prefer more inductionary style of the story than afterwords or recent storytelling. It means you prefer more concept and dealings and world aspect itself of it represented in begin than story-plot or telling in overall than else.

Sure, there are moments that feels more abruptly skipped than just not mentioned. However it appears confusing, it seems more that author (unconsiously/spontanesously) expect little bit imagination/reflection/suggestion from reader to be able depict several situation within and offscreen the chapters. Till now I see only describing and mentioning only important things, namely little essence to the plot or mainly focus on the current ARC. Basically it overviews great details and world-building, though it depicts the current state where MC is situated. Nonetheless the overal story is (till know) one of most fundemantally solid novels!

PS Basically what I wanted to say is:
Early story/development is irrelevant to main general plot. Yoiu may not cosider this but it is like a journey about tour of cultivation world itself depicting…. yeah! that’s true essence of the story, you understand it or not.
Just like a tip:So Deeper your cultivation so deeper your comprehension or is it just exactly otherwise?

  14. The leader sect is jindan, I thought he was yuanying already, but then I remembered that this city is not one of the main cities from this jie. Also the cloud pavilion remains unaffected by the power struggles happening right now, so the main shop might be from the main city. If zuo mo’s group defeat the experts who are coming, the sect leader might think that the turtle island’s people can take over the city and the sect at any time
