Chapter One – Prison

This was the Astral Plateau, the Holy City, Caville.

The reason it was called the Holy City was because this was where the main church of the Radiance Magus Church, the highest religious authority of the continent, was located.

In the eyes of the world, they were the incarnation of God, the holy symbol. The teaching of Radiance spread to every corner of Luska, affecting tens of thousands of people. Even in that little place, Qin City, people revered the Radiance Magus Church the most.

Right now, such respect grew even more after Archbishop Ling Bing returned from Karroll. All of Caville cheered. Ling Bing had just reached divine rank. When the news spread, the continent shook.

After a divine rank expert appeared, the status of the Radiance Magus Church grew much higher than the four great magister families. They controlled the religion of the continent, and they had a peerlessly strong expert. Right now, their reputation was growing to threaten Central Cloud City. There were many factions who were secretly urging Caville to fight Central Cloud City, and push the Kingdom of Hezekistan supported by the Radiance Magus Church to the same level as the Kaya Empire supported by the Central Cloud City.

While these factions did not directly control the country, to them, there was no difference between them and the countries they controlled. The Kaya Empire was alright, but if the Kingdom of Hezekistan had any important matter, they had to ask the Radiance Magus Church before they could make a decision.

While the Radiance Magus Church was being so proud, the Demon Emperor of the Black Magus Church who had shone for a moment grew silent. No one knew where he had gone, nor what the fate of the Black Magus Church would be.

The state of the continent had changed, but all of this had nothing to do with Aofeng.

Sitting in a cold grand hall, Aofeng twisted her lips. She looked at the bright white cage around her and the soaring statue of the Radiance god behind her and sighed. Ling Bing really thought highly of her to use such a grand hall as a prison for her.

This was the fourteenth day since she had been taken to the Astral Plateau.

The city outside had been noisy for many days, but this place had been set as restricted. People rarely came here. In any case, she did not lack food in her spatial ring, and after reaching such a level of cultivation, she was like most magic beasts. It was fine for her to absorb power from the outside world without eating. So no one even brought her food.

Many rank four professionals, celestial rank knights and holy warriors surrounded this hall, guarding this place against entry. If the archbishop did not arrive in person, even Chief Elder Shang Qian had to have permission from the archbishop in writing.

The icy cage was small but not boring.

Ben Lei and Si Jian played and fought as two kittens on the ground. Xiao Bing looked around the large hall from Aofeng’s collar. Liao Ya was lying at the side. Mei Jun leaned against Aofeng’s leg with narrowed eyes. Other than Arthurus and Meng Yan who were too big to summon, all the other magus beasts were chatting with Aofeng and kept her company.

The battle from more than ten days ago had been costly. At this time, Little Nine and the others had recovered their power. However, this holy cage was too strong and unable to be broken, connected to the mind of the archbishop. So even if it was broken, the archbishop would detect it immediately and she could not escape.

“Mama, do not be unhappy. Sooner or later, we will kill the bastard. Lil’ Nine’s ancient bloodline is more pure. If I grow up, leveling into divine rank is not a problem at all.” Lil’ Nine poked his head out of Aofeng’s arms and said fawningly, pressing with his little tail on Aofeng’s finger.

“But right now, the situation will not wait until that time. What if that Staff of Judgment can really break Boss Chi’s defense?” Liao Ya said worriedly.

“A life magic medium is really troublesome. Also, the astral power here is so dense. If it is gathered together and then activated, it will be very powerful.” Si Jian, who came from the Radiance Magus Church said. However, she did not have very deep feelings towards the Radiance Magus Church. How could a master who treated magus beasts like tools compare to Aofeng?

“Master, why are you not worried at all?” Ben Lei saw Aofeng still rubbing her chin thoughtfully and said urgently. What time was this, the outside was having a meeting to request the Staff of Judgment, and she was still idle here.

“What is the use in panicking, can we flee? The only thing we can do now is increase our strength and ponder the mistakes we made.” Aofeng’s index finger curled and slowly tapped on her leg.

“In these days, I have been analyzing why we have fallen to this level. When thinking about it, in reality, it is because we are not strong enough. We can be arrogant, but being too arrogant will invite trouble. On the surface, the archbishop reaching divine rank ruined our plan, but if we had paid more attention to the state of the continent, and learned more about the top experts, something like this would not have occurred.”

When one had too many halos, they would get some vanity. After being called a genius for too long, Aofeng had grown somewhat proud. She had a calm and cold personality, this feeling was not too strong, but once such a way of thinking formed, what it appeared as was conceit, and it was easy to bring trouble.

Aofeng’s pride came from her coldness in her soul, and should never be because of her vanity.

“If one does not endure hardship, it is not possible to become a person above others. Aofeng, this setback may be a good thing for you. At least, your thinking is more stable than before.” Chi’s faint laughter came from the red energy. In these days, he had not released the shield at all. They did not know what would come from the Radiance Magus Church, and they had to be on their guard.

Smiling, Aofeng’s eyes were clear. “Yes, defeat may not be a bad thing. After this time, if we can get out, before having absolute power and strength to strike back, I will not face them head on. At worst, I will just play tricks from the shadows. I am used to doing that.”

“But Master, how will we overcome this hurdle? Is there really no problem?” Xiao Bing asked mentally.

“Chi said there is no problem, what are you worried about? When one reaches the mountain, there will be a path. There will be a solution.” Aofeng flicked the little head and smiled. She and Chi were connected in their minds. She sensed he did not feel nervous at all. So Aofeng knew that they would be safe. However, she did not know what effect this would have on him.

“Each time I cause trouble, and I need Chi to resolve it. It really is……”

Chi’s cool but warm voice interrupted her. “There is no need to say such things between us.”

Her regret paused and then she felt warm. Aofeng said with a light laugh, “I just want to say, I have to cultivate and surpass you soon, to not always accept your protection.”

“That is not alright!” Chi said with dominance. “Men protect women, that is the way of the world. You are a woman and my covenantor. I am fated to protect you.”

Aofeng sweated. So the boy was full of machismo!

As they were heatedly talking, in the nearby holy temple, there was also a meeting between the higher ups.

There were twenty elder arbitrators, and twenty captains of the holy warriors. They were all rank five professionals. They formed the higher tier of the Radiance Magus Church, the arbitrator court. At the front of the hall, the Holy Emperor Jun Luoyu, the Chief Elder Arbitrator Shang Qian, and the six main red clothed auditors were all there. Even though the archbishop was the highest ranking, based on the rules, in order to request the holy Staff of Judgment, they had to collectively agree.

If not seen with their own eyes, no one could imagine the number of experts in the Radiance Magus Church. Of the forty something experts, other than Jun Luoyu, all of them were magus scholars or venerable swordsmen. There were several who had high star levels, not including the divine rank Archbishop himself.

Originally, the court had some restraining power on the archbishop, but after he reached divine rank, he could make a decision on everything here. Basically, this had become a place for him to speak. People’s worship of divine rank experts was blind.

“Then it is set. After the trial, tomorrow is the Enlightenment Festival, when the astral power is the densest. If we request the Staff of Judgment on this day, I do not believe that we cannot kill this heretic,” Archbishop Ling Bing said coldly. Almost all the votes were in favor, but only one person stood up.

“Luoyu, you have objections?” Ling Bing frowned.

Jun Luoyu had rushed back. Right now, his expression did not look very good. He nodded and spoke loudly,

Ling Bing’s eyebrows rose, and his eyes flashed. While Jun Luoyu’s words were challenging his authority, they went to his heart. Who was willing to be below others? When he reached divine rank, Ling Bing’s ambitions were not just half of the continent.

“But he killed Chief Elder Li Zhen,” a holy warrior captain who had been close to Li Zhen said.

“The Demon Emperor killed Chief Elder Li Zhen, Qin Aofeng just a nine-sword celestial magister. Without the help of the Demon Emperor, could the eight-star Chief Elder Li Zhen be killed? Also, Chief Elder Li Zhen went to get revenge, ruining Chief Elder Shang Qian’s recruitment plan. He died, but he is responsible!” Jun Luoyu glanced coldly at that person, the coldness and authority causing that person’s heart to tremble and take a step back.

Jun Luoyu continued to speak, “There does not seem to be any great grievance between Archbishop and Qin Aofeng. You have not killed any of his friends, or harmed him. Now, if you are willing to spare this person and they join our side, isn’t it very good?”

“Yes, Archbishop, not speaking of the potential, just the status of regent beast tamer is very useful to us!” Many people agreed. A regent beast tamer represented the benefits of every magister. Who was willing to refuse this?

Ling Bing looked around and was slightly persuaded. He said to Jun Luoyu, “I heard you have some friendship with Qin Aofeng. You will go do this. Tell Qin Aofeng if he is willing to work for my god, we can give him the greatest glory: the position of Li Zhen, but if he does not agree, the trial will continue tomorrow.”

Jun Luoyu acknowledged. A light flashed through his eyes and he sighed softly.
