Chapter 143 – Qing Transmigration Tale (52)

In these short days, Si Ye’s heart had cooled. He knew what illness he had. He thought his life would end here.

If Hong Hui had not kept him company all this time, he did not know if he would have been able to hold on.

He feared infecting Hong Hui, but the child was not willing to leave him.

Hong Hui felt that when he had been very ill, even at the last moment, A-ma and Eniang did not abandon him. He could not be heartless and abandon A-ma alone. Even if it was an edict from the emperor, he would disobey.

In order to not affect Hong Hui, he thought more than once to just end it like this.

Hong Hui was sleeping next to him, he did not dare to sleep well. He feared the child getting the illness without him knowing.

Hearing the soft footsteps, he had thought it was Su Pei Sheng. He opened his eyes, wanting to call Su Pei Sheng to see if Hong Hui had a fever. But who entered his sight was Princess Consort.

Her riding dress should have been a turquoise color, but because it was covered with dust, he was not sure. He could not tell the original hair style she had, it was tilted and askew. She even held a horse whip in her hand. She must have came here on a fast horse, and not washed up.

He wanted to ask her, why have you come? But his throat was dry and painful, and he could not make a sound at all.

Lin Yu Tong came forward and smiled. “Ye, I have come.”

Si Ye looked dazedly at Lin Yu Tong like this. You being in the establishment is the best choice, do you not know? Even without Ye, you have two sons. Your honors will not be any less than now. Why have you come now? Just for Ye? Is Ye this important to you?

Lin Yu Tong went over and pressed her forehead to Si Ye’s forehead, testing his temperature intimately. Then her lips fell to his ear. Then she got up. “It is fine, you do not have a fever now.”

Si Ye’s eyes grew more watery. He kept on looking at Lin Yu Tong, unable to take his eyes away.

His ears were the most sensitive. Only Lin Yu Tong knew this. She had done it on purpose.

Si Ye looked at the slyness in Princess Consort’s eyes. In her sly gaze, he could not see any sorrow. Was she so certain that Ye will be fine?

Lin Yu Tong then looked at Hong Hui. She reached with a hand. Before she touched Hong Hui, the child jumped up.

“Do not be afraid! It is Eniang.” Lin Yu Tong pressed on Hong Hui’s shoulder. This child had become much thinner. He likely had a lot of pressure on his mind.

She pulled the child’s arm and took his pulse in passing.

He was fine!

Hong Hui finally reacted and said uncertainly, “Eniang?”

Lin Yu Tong responded and pushed him out. “Go wash, change out of your clothes, and burn it. Then take Hong Yun and live in the outer tents. Eniang is taking your tent, leave this all to Eniang.”

Hong Hui was worried and went to argue when Lin Yu Tong put on a scary expression. “Do as you are told!”

Hong Yun finally managed to move in from outside, and when he saw Si Ye like this, the tears he had suppressed all the way came down.

Si Ye saw that the tears on Hong Yun’s face created two clear lines on his face, mixed with the dust on his face. It was a bit comical, and he could not help but smile.

Lin Yu Tong said, “Go with your brother. You wanted to see your a-ma, you got to. You two go wash, and then sleep. When you get up, Eniang has other things for you.”

Hong Hui looked at Si Ye in worry, still hesitating.

After talking to them some more, Su Pei Sheng took the two away.

Lin Yu Tong turned back and said, “They are so obtuse, they did not see that their eniang wants to spend some time alone with their a-ma.”

The mirth in Si Ye’s eyes almost spilled out. The depression and discontent of the past few days dissipated.

Lin Yu Tong went over to pull Si Ye’s hand. “Hong Hui is fine. Ye, do not worry. Leave the rest to me, you will be fine.”

Si Ye held Lin Yu Tong’s hand, and only nodded. He seemed to be very tired. Now that he relaxed, he fell into a deep sleep.

Lin Yu Tong left the tent, and saw Su Pei Sheng guarding outside.

“Master was not able to have a good sleep recently, he is dizzy, unclear of mind, but unable to sleep. Now, it is better,” Su Pei Sheng explained to Lin Yu Tong.

He had been worried, so could he rest well?

Lin Yu Tong nodded and asked, “The two a-ge have settled down?”

Su Pei Sheng hurriedly said, “This servant arranged the two a-ge outside the fence, upwind.”

“That is good,” Lin Yu Tong responded. She first went to Hong Hui’s former tent, and washed up quickly and changed before going to Si Ye’s tent.

She carefully took his pulse when he was asleep, and then looked at the palace physician’s prescription. She had to say that these people had some good skills.

“Bring the medicine, I will cook it myself.” Making medicine with the pocket space water would have the best effect. Lin Yu Tong did not want other people involved.

She made the medicine and cooked porridge on the other side. Even if he was seriously ill, he still had to eat.

With a hut set up on clear ground, and a simple stove constructed, the lifeless campground immediately grew lively.

Si Ye woke up with a strong fragrance. The windows of the tent were open. From the window, he could see Lin Yu Tong’s busy figure.

Soon, she came in with a tray. “Eat first.” Then she sat down, and fed him with a spoon.

Thick rice porridge mixed with the fragrance of different mushrooms and a little bit of salt. It was very light on taste but suitable.

Si Ye was not hungry, but because of Lin Yu Tong’s efforts, he slowly ate, forcing himself to swallow.

Lin Yu Tong looked at Si Ye who had a grain of rice stuck at the corner of his mouth. She did not know what she was thinking, going over and licking the grain of rice off.

Then Si Ye stilled, and Lin Yu Tong also stilled. Su Pei Sheng wanted there to be a hole in the ground for him to burrow into.

Lin Yu Tong’s movements had been faster than her head. Now that she reacted, she blushed red.

Si Ye’s eyes were as bright as search lights, looking at her.

Lin Yu Tong embarrassedly coughed. “Eat!” Then she fed Si Ye with the spoon again, but did not dare to look at his eyes.

A small bowl was eaten. Then the two sat opposite each other, one with a smile in his eyes, the other with her head down and hiding. After an hour, Si Ye finally realized something. This time, he had not vomited after eating.

This was a good sign.

Lin Yu Tong had Su Pei Sheng call for a physician. What Si Ye needed now was confidence.

The emperor was good to Si Ye. At least, the palace physician sent was Huang Sheng who only served the emperor.

There were several other physicians, specializing in the plague.

They took turns taking his pulse, and all expressed they had a good outlook.

Lin Yu Tong smiled and sent them off. After this diversion, it was not so awkward when she looked back.

“Being able to eat is a good sign.” She comforted him like this.

Si Ye reached out to pull her over to sit on his side, and just stared at her.

Lin Yu Tong was embarrassed by his stare. Just as she did not know what to do, she saw Su Pei Sheng come in with a bowl of medicine.

She would not do something as stupid as spoon feed him medicine. When the medicine was half cooled, Lin Yu Tong went to support Si Ye’s head, having him lean against her body. “Drink it down in one breath, this medicine is very bitter.”

Si Ye was not a child, and was able to tolerate this. He drank it in a few gulps. Su Pei Sheng handed over water for Si Ye to rinse his mouth. Then Lin Yu Tong put a preserved plum in Si Ye’s mouth before letting him lie back down. She pressed on his meridian points, fearing that he would vomit the medicine. She massaged for more than an hour before she stopped. Lin Yu Tong sighed in relief. This was a tiring job. She laid her hand back on Si Ye’s wrist, and felt that the sickness was temporarily suppressed. She was relieved inside, and laid down next to Si Ye. Soon, she fell asleep.

Su Pei Sheng explained in a whisper to Si Ye, “Princess Consort and Second A-ge traveled three days and nights.”

Si Ye nodded. Without needing to be told, he knew this.

At night, lightning flashed and thunder roared. Then the rain landed on the top of the tent in a loud pitter-patter.

A few days ago, a rainstorm had come down like this. Back then, Si Ye had found it miserable and irritating. He looked at the person sleeping deeply next to him, and just felt calm.

The next morning, Lin Yu Tong woke up with the sound of the horn. The sun had come up already.

“You are awake?” Si Ye’s voice was very soft and hoarse.

Lin Yu Tong stilled. She turned and saw Si Ye staring at her. She asked, “You are able to speak?”

Si Ye nodded. “It does not hurt so much.”

“Then the medicine is of effect.” Lin Yu Tong got up. “We will have the palace physician come to visit later.”

Su Pei Sheng brought tools to have Si Ye wash up. Lin Yu Tong had to clean up herself to go cook and make medicine.

Yesterday was mushroom porridge, today it would be vegetable porridge.

Before the food was ready, she saw Hong Hui and Hong Yun outside the fences, wanting to come in.

“Have you eaten?” Lin Yu Tong hurriedly went over and asked.

Hong Hui nodded. “Eniang, we have. May we enter to see A-ma?”

“You coming in will just make your a-ma worry for you.” Lin Yu Tong looked at the misty grass lands and said, “How about this, you take people along to find wild vegetables or get some fresh fish. If you do it yourselves, it will be more sincere.”

“For A-ma to eat?” Hong Yun asked.

Lin Yu Tong nodded. “Yes! Eating the freshest is the best for your a-ma‘s health.”

More importantly, it was to find something for the two children to do. Otherwise, they would not go out to play or come in to help. They would be very bored.

The two were relieved, and turned to run away with their guards.

When eating, Si Ye asked, “You will just have Ye eat wild vegetables from now?”

“Wild vegetables can be delicious to eat if made well.” Lin Yu Tong smiled and wiped the corner of his lips. “You eat porridge all day, you have nothing to taste. I will make something good for you to eat at noon.”

“Good.” Si Ye immediately responded. He was as obedient as a child. Lin Yu Tong’s heart felt very soft.

She could not resist going over and kissing Si Ye on the mouth.
